Hi. Chris and Matthew here.
Welcome to Pelham Hall Bed & Breakfast. Spellbound by the area, we moved down from London in 2012. We’ve spent the last year and a half renovating and designing Pelham Hall because we wanted to create something truly unique, desirable and worthy of sharing: a luxe, stylish retreat combining the comfortable, homey vibe you get staying with good friends; the wow-factor of high-end designer digs; the modern facilities and attentive service of a boutique hotel; the quirky, historic feel of a Tudor house; and the joy of being in one of the loveliest spots in England. That’s quite a mix! But one that we hope makes for a memorable, magical stay.
Pelham Hall was built in the 14c by the Pelham family, Lords of the Rape (i.e. old Norman name for county) of Hastings, as a grand Sussex Hall House for their local Bailiff. It’s since been divided into two floors and added to over the centuries, but the hammer beams and wattle and daub walls from its earliest days are still visible.
How do we define the style of the place? Well, we can’t quite put our finger on it, but it’s a bit hip, a bit elegant, a bit, well, eclectic. In practice what that means is a mix of beautiful antiques from the 17th to 20th c.; murals by local artisans; high-end designer fabrics. And there’s more. All rooms come with modern, custom built en-suite bathrooms; the finest cotton and down bedding; and each is designed with its own distinctive signature look.
